This year, the University of Wyoming College of Business embarked on a mission to develop a more inclusive and equitable career fair for business students.
In addition to reducing barriers to registration, the university provided UW-branded t-shirts to students who attended the event expecting to wear jeans rather than suits and ties.
The Career Fair on September 8 was the largest in UW College of Business history in terms of student engagement and employer participation. The event attracted well over 300 students to the fair, increasing student attendance by 100% over the previous year.
Scott Beaulier, Dean of UW College of Business, said he was impressed with the event.
“My first career fair as a business dean surprised me,” he says. “As we walk around the fair and visit with students and employers, we hear a big theme that our ability to lower the barriers to attending this event will make it more comfortable for everyone to participate. did.”
On the employer side, 85 companies from Texas to Minnesota participated in the event. This number has increased by 121% from 2021. In total, 37 Wyoming-based employers and many others with a strong presence within the state and region were in attendance.
“We have a dedicated team of student success experts to not only spend this fun and exciting day at college, but to prepare our students to make the most of it as they plan their future careers. We need it,” says director Taylor True. Peter M. and Paula Green Johnson of the Center for Student Success. “Thanks to our people and their efforts, it will be possible to host such a transformative event.”
The scale of the event required creative use of the entire East Wing of the College of Business Building for the first time. The students started their journey from the top floor of the building. I roamed the corridors of different departments and talked to different employers. I left the Jonah Bank Atrium.
“Our responsibility as the College of Business is to ensure that our partners in the industry are relevant. Seeing over 85 partners recruiting the best and brightest talent in our building, You can see that we live up to that mission,” said Steve Russell, vice president of UW College of Business. “These partners have not only provided employment and internship opportunities for students here, but they have engaged us throughout the year, making us not only the Wyoming business school, but the top business school in the region. It guarantees that we are a school of
