But for some, the night brings renewed vigor, and the city’s night schools officially begin their fall semester this week.

Serving all 16 districts of Shanghai, this year’s evening school courses incorporate arts and culture with a particular focus on intangible cultural heritage classes.

Choose from 168 courses ranging from makeup arts to calligraphy, traditional Chinese painting and vocal music.

Of the classes available, 146 are offline courses and 22 are online courses, available to residents of the Yangtze River Delta region.

In suburban Minhang District, all 14 districts have their own evening classes, for a total of 20 different courses.

The offline class starts at 7pm and lasts 1.5 hours.

Besides sports parks, classes are held at art galleries, libraries, museums, public service centers, universities, commercial buildings and parks.

A total of 3,200 students enrolled in the fall semester and all classes are conducted under strict pandemic prevention and control.
