SUPER DAD Taylor Calmus on family entertainment: ‘We have a bigger purpose’

By Movieguide® Staff

According to DUDE DAD and SUPER DAD star Taylor Calmus, his entertainment has one goal.

One of the coffee mugs sold on Calmus’ site defines “Dude Dad” as follows: A father who is dedicated to raising his children in the grandest way possible 2. Like a normal father, except with more fun.

The father of three recently reflected on his journey to creating content specifically for dads, and how moving to Colorado inspired his “Dude Dad” videos on YouTube.

“I’ve seen a lot of mom vlogs, but nothing for dads,” he told The Gazette. “I wanted to share my experience as a father.

“For decades, we have a culture that teaches us that being a father sucks and that our fathers are stupid,” he continued. “We are demonstrating a side of competence when it comes to being a father and looking forward to being a father.”

Aside from his YouTube channel and shows in partnership with Chip and Joanna Gaine’s Magnolia Network, he has also published a book called A Dude’s Guide to Baby Size.

“What we do is more than entertainment,” he said. “We have a larger purpose of bringing good to the world. We’re just trying to be a happy place on the edge of the internet.”

Movieguide® previously reported:

In 2020, Calmus and his family purchased a home in Fort Collins, Colorado, but didn’t go inside at first. After the move, Calmus posted a renovation update that caught the attention of FIXER UPPER duo Chip and Joanna Gaines.

To raise money for St. Jude, Calmus has launched a challenge to see who can build the best playhouse.

“Chip and I are very similar in that we are DIY guys who are goofy dads. I always love him and his shows and how cool it is to work with him.” “So I made this challenge video, put it out, and they accepted. We ended up raising $1.5 million for St. Jude.” Did.”

The event not only raised money for the hospital, but it also brought the Magnolia Network’s new show, SUPER DAD, to Calmus.

The show highlights “aspiring DIY dads turn kids’ wildest backyard dreams into playtime realities.”

“It’s a whole different beast. It’s fun because it takes 30 minutes to tell a story, so there’s a lot of room to get real and go a little deeper into the story,” says Calmus. “And the projects all got bigger. But that’s a lot of work. I’ve never worked harder than making a TV show.”

Calms said the show has taught her as much important lessons about parenting as it has taught her about DIY projects.

“I have three kids and I’m tired all the time. One dad told me, really easily, if you’re tired, you’re doing the right thing,” he said. said. “And it really struck a chord with me. If you’re tired, you’re trying and trying.”
